Legal

Privacy policy for this website.

This policy describes how we handle information when you visit arnoldpublishers.com. It applies only to this site — ordering books or journals, customer accounts, and payment data are handled under separate terms and privacy notices operated by Hodder & Stoughton and its distributors.

Last updated April 2026. Arnold Publishers is part of the Hodder Headline group.

Who we are

The organisation responsible for this website (“we”, “us”, “our”) is Arnold Publishers, 338 Euston Road, London NW1 3BH, United Kingdom. We are an academic and professional book and journal publisher. When you use this site, we act as the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, except where we explain that another company processes information strictly as our processor (for example, our hosting and analytics providers).

What this policy covers

This policy applies to information collected through arnoldpublishers.com and its sub-pages. It does not govern third-party websites we link to (including retail or library suppliers), or the separate privacy notices that apply when you buy products or create accounts elsewhere in the Hodder Headline / Hachette group ecosystem. For general site terms, see our Terms of Use.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may process the following categories of data:

  • Information you send us. If you email us (for example via feedback.arnold@hodder.co.uk), we receive your email address, any name or signature in your message, and the content of your correspondence. We use this to respond to you and to improve our services where relevant.
  • Technical and usage data. When you load pages, standard web server and infrastructure logs may record data such as your IP address, browser type, approximate location derived from the IP (typically at country or city level), referring URL, time of access, and pages requested. We use this to operate the site, maintain security, diagnose faults, and understand aggregate traffic patterns.
  • Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics(provided by Vercel Inc.) to collect privacy-oriented, aggregated statistics about how the site is used — for example which pages are viewed and in what proportions. Vercel's documentation describes this product as not using cookies for visitors in the same way as many legacy analytics tools; nonetheless, a small amount of technical data may be processed to distinguish repeat visits. For details, see Vercel's analytics privacy information and Vercel's privacy policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site is designed to be readable without creating a user account. We do not operate first-party advertising cookies or social plug-ins that track you across unrelated sites. Essential technical cookies or local storage may be set by our hosting platform where needed for security, load balancing, or session integrity. Analytics processing is described above. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking all cookies may affect how some features behave.

Why we use your information (lawful bases)

Under UK GDPR we rely on the following bases, as appropriate:

  • Legitimate interests — operating, securing, and improving the website; understanding readership at an aggregate level; responding to enquiries; and protecting our legal rights.
  • Consent — where we ask for it explicitly (for example, if we add optional marketing sign-ups in future). Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier processing that was lawful.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law, regulation, or court order.

How long we keep information

Server and security logs are kept only as long as needed for the purposes above, typically for a limited rolling period defined by our hosting provider. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to complete our conversation and for a reasonable period afterwards for follow-up, record-keeping, and legal defence where applicable. Aggregated analytics data may be held in depersonalised or statistical form for longer.

Who we share information with

We use trusted service providers (“processors”) who process data on our instructions. These currently include Vercel Inc. (website hosting and analytics) and, where email is hosted or filtered within our group, appropriate Hodder Headline / Hachette infrastructure. We require processors to implement appropriate security measures and to use personal data only for the services they provide to us.

We may disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of others, or in connection with a corporate reorganisation, provided that appropriate safeguards apply.

We do not sell your personal information.

International transfers

Some of our processors are based outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred to the United States or other countries, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable, UK International Data Transfer Agreements / Addendum, or Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK Information Commissioner's Office, together with supplementary measures where required.

Your rights

If UK GDPR applies to our processing, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate data;
  • Ask us to erase data in certain circumstances;
  • Restrict or object to certain processing;
  • Data portability, where the law provides for it;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based;
  • Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at feedback.arnold@hodder.co.uk. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You will not usually have to pay a fee, but we may charge a reasonable fee or refuse manifestly unfounded or excessive requests, as permitted by law.

Children

This website is intended for adults engaged in study, research, or professional practice. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 through this site. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or alteration. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure; please use a secure channel if you send sensitive information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes may be highlighted on the site where appropriate. Please review this page periodically.
