Biography
Stephen Kevin Smith is a British academic gynaecologist and health executive whose research career at the University of Cambridge (Professor and Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1988–2003) covered more than 230 papers on reproductive medicine and cancer, including the gene networks that regulate blood-vessel growth in reproductive tissue. He received his Doctor of Science from Cambridge in 2001. After Cambridge, he served as Executive Dean of Medicine at Glasgow, Principal of Medicine at Imperial College London — where he led the creation of the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre and became Chief Executive of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust — Vice-President for Research at Nanyang Technological University, and Dean of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. He edited Reproductive Medicine Review for Edward Arnold through the 1990s and into the early 2000s.
