Biography
Paul Simpkin retired in 1994 as Head of Engine and Aircraft Evaluation at Rolls-Royce after a career that began as an apprentice at Airspeed (1934) Ltd and continued through National Service and aerodynamic posts at de Havilland before he joined Rolls-Royce in 1959. His committee work for UK ministries and industry groups informed national policy on propulsion-airframe integration. With Lloyd R. Jenkinson and Darren Rhodes he co-authored Civil Jet Aircraft Design (Arnold, 1999), supplying the propulsion-performance and in-service evaluation perspective for a textbook aimed at university design courses.
