Biography

Sir Hew Francis Anthony Strachan is a British military historian best known for his work on the British Army and on the First World War, including the first volume of a projected trilogy, The First World War: To Arms (2001). He was Chichele Professor of the History of War at the University of Oxford (2002–2015) and a Fellow of All Souls College, and from 2015 has been Professor of International Relations at the University of St Andrews. In 1993 he and Dennis Showalter founded War in History for Edward Arnold as a peer-reviewed journal of military history across all periods, and he has served as a Managing Editor of the journal since its launch in 1994.
