Biography

Alan J. Thompson is a neurologist specialising in multiple sclerosis, the Garfield Weston Professor of Clinical Neurology and Neurorehabilitation at University College London and a consultant neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He chaired the panel that produced the 2017 revisions to the McDonald diagnostic criteria for MS. He became Editor-in-Chief of Multiple Sclerosis Journal in 2006, succeeding Donald Silberberg, and carried the title through and beyond the Hodder Arnold–SAGE transfer.
