Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of Leicester

Biography

Roger Dickinson joined Leicester's Centre for Mass Communication Research in 1982 and rose to a chair in sociology focused on newswork, health communication and media industries. Co-editor, with Ramaswami Harindranath and Olga Linné, of Approaches to Audiences: A Reader (Arnold, 1998), he framed the volume's sections on media influence, ethnographic audience study and community-level reception. His later externally funded projects examined journalists' use of social media, food-risk reporting and Arab-world news systems.
