Biography

Nick Middleton writes for both scholarly and general audiences on deserts, environmental hazards and extreme travel environments. With David S. G. Thomas he coordinated the United Nations Environment Programme's World Atlas of Desertification (Arnold's UK edition, 1997), translating UNEP's global assessment maps into case studies from the Sahel, Central Asia, Australia and the Mediterranean rim. His popular geography titles and Oxford handbooks extend the same dryland expertise to A-level and first-year undergraduates.
